During the 2015 year-end giving, donations from PayPal users around the world amounted to $857 million, signaling the biggest holiday season for charitable giving in PayPal’s history.
Μore than 7.24 million people from 183 countries have contributed to this venture, with donations made from November 27 through December 31. The average gift size was $93.
Additionally, more than half a billion dollars ($691,924,261) were given by individuals in the United States, this holiday season. The United Kingdom ($49,377,896), Canada ($42,959,820), Germany ($16,752,694), France ($14, 415, 355) and Australia ($13, 023, 564) followed next as the top countries ranked by the total amount given.
One of the most interesting facts is that on December 1st a new world record was set, as PayPal users helped set the Guiness World Records title for “Most money raised online for charity in 24-hours”. Donators raised $45.8 million in a period of 24 hours, while the previous record was approximately $19 million.
Concluding, charitable giving via PayPal was launched during the 2015 holiday season and exceeded last years' numbers by more than $113 million – leading to an increase of 15 percent compared to 2014.
