75 percent of waste produced in Dubai emirate from the landfills will be shifted by the Dubai Municipality with double the effort as announced by an official. This step is taken as a part of the National Agenda and National Index environmental project.

The Director of Waste Management and Head of Sustainable Waste Management Awareness Team at Dubai Municipality, Abdul Majeed Sifai said during the opening of an awareness exhibition on sustainable environmental practices in Mirdif City Center, “The municipality is also educating the public to spread the concept and culture of waste reduction.”

The goal of this project is to promote projects and initiatives in the waste management activity fields that aligns on the highest approved standards by the public.

Sifai added, “We are multiplying our efforts to educate all segments of the public in order to activate the role of the community in achieving the goals and aspirations of the wise leadership to have maximum benefit by increasing segregation and recycling of waste at source.”

Included in the exhibition are some handicraft workshops for children as to open their awareness about the importance of lessening waste and maintaining a clean environment, amongst others that also promotes the ‘outstanding cleaning worker’.

Several public health and safety video films were shown in order to widen the perspective of Dubai Community regarding this cause.Few special stalls were set-up during the event to exhibit awareness on waste segregation at source project namely “My City, My Environment” and the other called “Smart Sustainability Oasis” for waste segregation centers project.

“Green Factory”, an electronic game which will be available on Apple Store and Google Play was also introduced, serving as a modernized way to promote and educate the public, especially the young people about sorting and reducing waste including its crucial effects not only on the environment but also the general society.
